I want to show you how to curl your hair "the normal way". I can't even call it the "right way" because everyone curls differently. Just like I had no idea how to use a wand, I know a lot of girls have no idea how to use a clamp. Hopefully this helps you in some way to understand the mystery of the curling iron. Here is how I do it...
- Bottom Section: Curling the base of your hair helps make sure your curls will last ALL night.
- Middle Section: Curling the "in-between" hair separately helps add volume.
- Top Section: Save the best for last, after-all this is the part most people see.
Split your hair down the middle, into two sections, to make sure you do not miss the back. Curl each side completely before moving to the next section.
Start at the tip of your hair, roll away from the face, up to the roots and hold till it is hot-to-the-touch. Press the clamp to release the curl. Do not run your fingers through it yet, but let it cool and set. Continue doing this in 1 inch sections, until your whole head is curled.
What Not To Do:
- Curling towards your face.
- Clamping the wrong way and kinking the ends of your hair.
To make sure your are curling away from your face, and not getting kinks, you will need to observe the direction you are rolling the curling iron. I hold the curling iron with my right hand, so whenever I am curling the left side of my head I place the clamp on top and the iron underneath, then roll away from my face. When I am curling the right side of my head I place the clamp under the hair and the iron on top, then roll away from my face. As a rule, always curl so that your hair touches the iron first, not the clamp. If your curl touches the clamp first, you are creating a kink.
Now go enjoy your curls with a night out or stay in and watch Netflix, whatever floats your boat!
P.S. Just in case anyone is concerned that I ruined my sweet sisters hair by using the wand for the first time on a big day, here is a picture of the gorgeous graduate 3 hours later with no hairspray. I don't think I could ruin those looks if I tried!
