Fortunately for me, my aunt had this gorgeous oak dresser sitting in her garage and gave it to me for free! My sweet friend Sheri & I decided to paint it & add little touches to make this a perfect dresser for my room. The whole project cost about $30 dollars, & was incredible easy!
Black Satin Paint
(2) Roller Brushes
(2) Sponge Brushes
Screws (for the handles)
Black Spray Paint
Before painting it, we had to sand it. Without doing that the paint would not have stayed.
We got a quart of black satin paint for under $10, and still had plenty left over!
To paint the bigger parts, we used the roller brushes, and then the little crevices we used the sponge paint. **If you don't sand thoroughly the paint won't stick to the varnish.
For the black handles, we just laid them out and used the black spray paint. So easy!
For final touches we added this gold pattern drawer liner! If I am going to be honest this part was difficult, and I don't think I will ever master a technique for this. If I do however I will certainly blog about it. I gave up trying just fit one piece in each drawer and did it in sections for the last drawer (as you can tell by the mis-lining of it, haha). We got this liner at Walmart, but you can buy it here!
We also added floor gliders at the bottom, which you can buy here. You can put them on all kinds of furniture to make it move, virtually effortlessly, across floors!
Sheri gave me two of her crystal knobs, which we used for the two top drawers which you can easily get here, at Pier1 for $6 dollars each!
The Lord blessed me so much by this free dresser, and to do a "make over" with it was so much fun, and cost very little money. I know not everyone has a cool aunt who will give you free dressers, but by checking your local thrift store you could find furniture for next to nothing!
